You don't fall into the vanilla rut overnight. It happens one skift ritual, one missed check-in, one busy week at a time. But here's the good news. You don't need hour-long scenes every night to keep your DS dynamic alive. Sometimes it's the little things that make the biggest difference, and I'm going to show you exactly what those are. Welcome to the Dom Sub Living podcast. Being consistent in a Dom Sub dynamic is so important, but I admit it is pretty dang challenging. I'm a full-time, collared submissive to my Dom, but I'm also a mom to two kids, and I homeschooled them even. And I have numerous health issues and physical illnesses that I deal with. And at the end of the day, I'm tired the majority of the time. And so sometimes the last thing I want to do is have an hour-long intense scene. And it's the same thing for my dom. He works full-time, he travels. And so it's hard to at the, you know, the weekend when it's supposed to be this time for rest and re relaxation to want to step up and take on that role of a dominant. So the goal of this episode is to offer practical advice and strategies that you can put into place for integrating BDSM into daily routines so you can stay consistent. So consistency builds trust. It shows that you can depend on your partner long term, that this isn't something that's going to fizzle out. And so maybe you can't rely on your partner or your relationship. Consistency allows you to grow too, because if you're not consistent, then you're constantly starting and stopping and not making any real progress as a dom or sub. It also deepens your bond and your connection with your partner. And so that just makes the scenes that you're doing more fun, more intense, because you have that deep emotional connection. But it's really important to have clear expectations and boundaries with your partner. And so communicate openly with your partner about what consistency means to them and what consistency means to you. And that way you're both on the same page because you probably have different ideas of what consistency in your dynamic looks like on a daily basis. But what you are expecting and wanting needs to be realistic because we're all humans. Like I said, I am a mom, I have health issues, and so we need to be consistent about what we're wanting, what we're needing. And so that may look like not having a scene every single night. Um, that might not be realistic. So you want to respect both partners' daily lives, what they have to deal with throughout the day, and what their responsibilities are. So what this looks like into practice, so instead of maybe giving the submissive five tasks to do in a day, maybe just having them do two or three. Or again, instead of having a daily scene at the end of the night, maybe just have a weekly scene or even a scene every other week. The point is you try to have a goal and try to keep that and maintain it. So it's a goal that you want to reach. So again, make it realistic. Another way you can create consistency is to integrate small acts of DS into your everyday life. So, some examples of things you can do or have your partner do. You can have something like a discrete collar that they can wear to kind of keep them in the role, have them send you a morning text, or you send them a morning text to just kind of set the day. You can do journaling, um, have journal prompts, protocols around meals and bedtimes. Another simple thing to do to stay in the mindset and be consistent is for the submissive to ask permission to do things. So for us, I may do mundane things like do grocery shopping, but I tell my partner, you know, I need to go grocery shopping. Is it okay if I go leave right now? So just having to ask permission, is it okay if I take a nap? Just little things like that just keeps you in that headspace. So you want to incorporate rituals, rules, tasks, things that can be easily adapted to various schedules and environments. So things that you could do easily at work, things you can do, you know, when you're busy. I know the holiday times are, you know, tend to be busy for people. So still having rules and rituals that you can implement then, even on vacations, just trying to keep it simple. And even when you're in public, so you can do something simple like having code words or even like hand signals to really keep that dynamic alive while you're in public. Another simple thing you can incorporate is picking out clothes for your partner's approval, a discrete, spicy text that you send to your partner while they're at work, or the Dom can text a command for their partner to do while they're at work, special nightly rituals, like in our case, I meal every night. So it's these little things that really add up. They're not huge tasks, they're just really small. So I'm sure if you like made a list of all these things and all the things you could do and add, and just try to pick, you know, a couple to start with and try to make them a habit, and then you can add more over time. And one of the best ways to help you do this is to utilize technology to really maintain that connection. Because even when you're physically apart, you can use technology to assist you in maintaining a consistent dynamic. So, how we do this is my Dominique, we use iPhones, and so we use our iPhones to set reminders. Um, he even sets reminders for me on my phone. We can share tasks with each other, and so I can click them off and he can see which ones I've done throughout the day. It also syncs my submissive journal and he gets a notification when I've updated it. I can share, you know, spicy pictures throughout the day with him. And so technology is just a great tool to keep you consistent. And so if you're a member of my DOM sub training course, definitely check out the resources there for my top apps and different tools that can help you do a lot of these things and help you stay on track. And then create a routine. So have a schedule that includes time dedicated to your BDSM dynamic, because doing that is just so beneficial. I always love the saying, what gets scheduled gets done. So if you don't schedule it, it's not gonna get done. So again, you don't want to get overwhelmed. So one thing we do is I have three main tasks to accomplish throughout the day. And these are kind of like extra things that my Dom has assigned to me on top of some of those other daily routines that we do. And then other things we do are like maintenance bankings, those are always fun. We do a weekly scene, we have a check-in session once a week. So these are all things that we can schedule on the calendar that we share together so that way we know that these are coming up, and then also two other things we're doing throughout the week can kind of be moved around around our schedule as a DOM sub couple. So life does happen. So your daily and weekly routines that you have, they they need to be flexible, of course, but consistency really is the main thing. If you miss a week, acknowledge it and make sure you pick it up the next week or the next day. And your schedule in your routine needs to work for both of you. So sit down together to really design this and see what works for both of you, because you may not know the ins and outs of each other's schedules, what you have to do for work and for kids and all the other things. So definitely get together with your partner to create that schedule. And of course, if you're a member of the DOM subtraining course, you actually have access to my real life daily schedule and my DOMS too. So you can use that for inspiration. And again, let's be real. Life can be unpredictable, and maintaining consistency will sometimes be challenging and you will have slip-ups. You may even get into the vanilla rut and get off track. So, what do you do then? Well, you want to recognize and acknowledge that you got off track and you want to do that as soon as possible. Because if you don't do it as soon as possible, resentment can build and those feelings can just fester if you're just ignoring it and kind of shoving it under the rug. If it's a DOM that kind of slacked in their consistency, then the sub may not trust their dominant as much anymore. Or if the sub has been slacking in their tasks and the things that they're supposed to be doing, then the DOM may not want to even try anymore if they see that the sub isn't even acknowledging that they're not doing these things. So really just put it out there, admit what happened so that way you can rebuild that trust. And then just have an open dialogue. Like what happened? What caused this? What are the things that kind of led up to it? Were there external pressures going on or other stresses that were a factor? Because understanding what caused it can help you find a solution together. So then you need to figure out a solution. So you want to develop strategies to prevent this happening in the future. So this could be things like including reminders on your phone, having more frequent check-ins. If you've been checking in weekly and that hasn't been working, try every other day. Or if you've only had a check-in once a month, then try having a check-in once a week. Maybe adjusting the scope of the task and the rules to make them more manageable. Um, one example that we did was we had a task where my dom wanted me to text him a picture of like three different panties for um to choose which one I was gonna wear that day. And so I would do that. I would lay out three and take a picture of the three, and he would text me which ones to wear. It was fine in the beginning, super, super sexy and fun for both of us. But after a while, like I was, you know, scrambling to get myself ready in the morning, scrambling to get the kids ready. I would have errands to go run, and I didn't have time to lay out three different panties and take a picture of it. And so instead of me just not doing it and not even talking about it, I brought it to my dom's attention during a weekly check-in. I let him know that I was thankful that he was a giving me tasks and I wanted to please him, but that this one was a little too hard to manage because of my schedule. And so we adjusted it. And so now it's only like if we're going out, he'll pick what I wear. That way he still knows that I recognize him as my Dom and the ability to pick what I wear, and that he can freely assign me tasks. And if it is too hard, that I'm going to speak up too. So that's another good thing is you need to speak up because the other person needs to trust that they can push you a little bit or stretch your limits a little bit, and that you will speak up if it's too much. And so that's what I did in that case. And so again, if you if you or your partner slacked in consistency, you really just want to stay positive to talk about all the good things that you like about your relationship instead of just saying what's going wrong, talk about the things that are going right too, and really just recognize the effort of your partner. And that way they'll be motivated to fix their mistakes too. Another thing that can help you get back on track, I would keep talking about this, but those are those like weekly reviews, those check-ins. So having regular sessions to really review your dynamic and your different communication strategies and how slip-ups were handled, those will go a long way to keep the lines of dialogue open between the two of you and just really enforce that commitment to growth and improvement. And we have monthly reviews baked into our all access past. So definitely check that out if you're needing accountability. And of course, if you get into that vanilla rut, if you totally are slacking in consistency and it's happening on an ongoing basis, I highly encourage you to seek guidance from a BDSM friendly therapist or a DOM sub relationship coach because they can provide professional insight and strategies for helping you to navigate challenges within your dynamic. Because remember that the goal is not to avoid slip-ups entirely, because that would be unrealistic. We're all going to slip up, we're all going to maybe slack a little bit in our tasks. We're all human, but it's how we handle them. And that way we can get right back on track and get back to our routines, get back to our habits, and that way we are keeping that consistency throughout the day. So definitely to maintain consistency, set clear expectations and boundaries, and just integrate small acts of DS into your everyday life and utilize technology as much as possible to maintain that connection. That'll help make it easy for you. So you're not just relying on your memory and your willpower. Create a schedule and routines for you and your partner and handle any slip-ups the right way and make adjustments as needed.
