Okay, I have a challenge for you. Well, actually, I have four. They're kinky, they work for both DOMs and subs, and I've personally tried every one. If your DS dynamic has started feeling a little vanilla lately, this episode might be exactly what you need to shake things up. Welcome to the DOM Sub Living Podcast. Hey, it's Alessandra, and it's finally October. And October is one of my favorite months because so much happens for me personally in October. My birthday is in October, my wedding anniversary is in October, and this year it's going to be 25 years. My oldest son's birthday is in October, and of course, Halloween is in October too. But something else is in October that's really, really cool, and that is Kinktober. If you're new to the idea, Kinktober is basically a month-long excuse to get a little more intentional about your kink. Some people do a prompt a day, some people pick one thing to go really deep on, and some people just use it as an excuse to finally have a conversation they've been putting off for a while. And to inspire you, I thought it would be fun to share some kinky challenges you can try, whether you're a Dom or a sub. These are all going to be challenges that I have done personally that were a lot of fun, and some of them were too much fun. But here's why I love challenges in particular. When you've been in a dynamic for a while, like I said, we've been married for 25 years, but when it's been that long, things settle. The rules you were so excited about in month one get kind of stale and almost turn vanilla. Or maybe the protocols you do get a little sloppy and nobody really decides to let that happen. It just sort of happens. Does any of that sound familiar? You still care about your partner, you still care about the lifestyle, you still play, but it's been a while since anything felt new, right? So a challenge fixes that because it gives you a start date and an end date and something specific to pay attention to. That's it. Like that's the whole trick. It's not about being more extreme, it's about being more deliberate. Now, a quick word on how to use this episode. Please don't try to do all four at once. I mean it. Just pick one, maybe two if you're feeling ambitious, but just listen to all four first. Notice which one kind of just like makes your heart flutter a little, and then start there. The one that makes you a little nervous is probably the one you need. And every challenge that I'm going to share with you today has something in it for both the DOM and the sub. A lot of kink content puts a lot of the work on the sub, like subs do this, subs follow that. But a challenge where only one person is stretching isn't really a challenge for the dynamic. So for each one, I'll tell you what the sub is working on and what the DOM is working on too. Also, consent and safety still apply in every single one of these, obviously. If you've been listening to this podcast for a while, you already know how to negotiate. Just remember to actually do it before you start, not afterwards or halfway through. All right, let's get started. Challenge number one is the one I'd recommend for almost every kinkster listening. And it's also the one people think will be easy right up until they try it. So challenge number one, the no touch challenge. Here's how it works: you pick a set window of time where the sub isn't allowed to touch the DOM unless the DOM gives permission. That could be during one specific scene or one evening, it could be a full weekend. Some couples go a whole week because a touch means everything. So you're not even gonna give a hug in the kitchen or a hand on the knee while you're watching TV or reaching for them in bed. All of it needs permission first. The Dom, on the other hand, can touch the sub whenever they like, within the terms you've negotiated, of course. So this can be during scenes, but outside of scenes as well, like even small things like a hand on the back of the neck. And the sub just has to take it. So why does this work so well? Well, think about how often you touch your partner without even noticing, probably dozens of times a day. Once you take that away, the anticipation builds almost right away. Little things you used to ignore like suddenly feel huge. We've done this during scenes before, but we also tried this at home uh a few years back, and I honestly thought it would just be cute, like a little sexy maybe. What I didn't expect was how much agony it would be. So here's what each of you is working on during this challenge. For the some, this is about self-control and asking well, not whining, not pouting, just asking and then accepting the answer, whatever it is, whether it's a yes or a no. That's harder than it sounds when you've been being touched by them for so long. And for the DOM, this is about being present. You're the one choosing when touch happens. You're the one making decisions all day long now. And that brings me to the biggest mistake I see with this one: DOMs. If you set a no-touch rule, you're also signing up to tease. So plan at least a few moments each day where you're deliberately building the tension. So it can be, you know, a soft whisper, you know, lingering touch, or just telling them, you know, maybe later I'll touch you. If you don't tease, you haven't created anticipation, you just created distance and a break. Now here's a way you can take this further. Add a silent scene. So plan a short, low-intensity scene where the DOM gives all direction without speaking. So gestures, eye contact, you know, pointing a finger to the floor. That's it. No words. And then before you start, agree on a nonverbal safe signal since the sub is probably not speaking either. So dropping an object works really well. So does tapping out three times on the Dom's arm or on the floor. Pick one and practice it once before you start and make sure it's crystal clear for both of you. Keep the scene short the first time. So, like 15 or 20 minutes is plenty. It forces both of you to pay so much closer attention to each other. And it tends to be surprisingly intense for something that looks so simple on paper. I mean, when was the last time you really watched your partner just breathe? Or if you're not talking and you're not touching, maybe you notice more about how their skin looks or how their scent smells. That's what this challenge does. Okay, the next challenge is one you can do at a grocery store, at a family dinner, even at work. And nobody around you will have any idea what's going on. So challenge number two is the secret protocol challenge. Here's the setup. Together, you create one discrete protocol to follow in public. Just one. The rule is that nobody else around you could ever recognize it as DS. To anyone watching, it's nothing. To the two of you, though, it's everything. Let me give you some examples so you can see what I mean. So the sub always walks on the Dom's left side. The sub waits until the Dom takes the first bite before eating. The Dom orders for the sub at restaurants. See how none of those would look strange to a server or your mother-in-law? That's the whole point. But my Dom had a protocol that whenever I would wear a skirt or a dress when we were out, he would whisper to me to go to the bathroom and bring him back my panties for him. I would have to go to the bathroom, take them off, kind of discreetly carry them wadded up in my hand, and discreetly hand them to him and he'd put them in his pocket. He would have to know while we were in public for the rest of that time that I was wearing nothing underneath my skirt or my dress, and I would have to know that my panties were wadded up in his pocket. But here's what I've noticed about this challenge in my own life too. The protocol itself barely matters. What matters is the awareness. When you know you're holding a secret together, you're thinking about each other throughout that day or that hour. You kind of catch each other's eye across a crowded room. It's like an inside joke that never gets old. Now, a few ground rules here. First, keep other people out of it. Your protocol should never pull in strangers or coworkers or family. They didn't agree to this. So they don't get dragged into your kink. It should be invisible to them. Second, keep it simple. If you need a chart to remember it, it's it's too much. Just one protocol done consistently, that's the whole challenge. For the sub, the work here is going to be consistency. Can you remember every single time, even when you're distracted and tired and your aunt is asking about your job? For the DOM, the work is attention. Are you noticing when they do it? Because a protocol nobody notices fades really quickly. Okay, challenge three. It sounds like the simplest one on this list, but it's the one my students get wrong the most. And when it goes wrong, it's almost always the DOM's fault. I'll tell you why. Challenge number three, the service challenge. Here's the challenge. The sub finds three intentional ways to make their Dom's day easier. The Dom's challenge is to notice, acknowledge, and reinforce that service. Sounds simple, right? Here's the key word though: intentional, not like I did the dishes because they were dirty. Intentional means the sub has paid attention to their DOM's life and found the places where a little help would make a real difference. So before the sub does anything, I want them to spend like two or three days just watching. Like, where does your Dom get frustrated? What did they like sigh and complain about? What tasks do they keep putting off? Maybe, you know, mornings are chaos, so you have their coffee ready and their keys by the door. Maybe they hate getting gas, so you fill up the tank before they notice it's low. Maybe they come home from work like exhausted, so you give them 10 quiet minutes before the kids ask them a single question. Maybe there's an email or a phone call they've been dreading for weeks and you take it off their plate. Maybe you notice that they've been fumbling for toys during a scene, so you take it upon yourself to organize their toy box. None of that is glamorous, but it's real. And real service is about the person you're serving, not about looking like a good sub. Now, why does this go wrong so often? Well, it's because DOMs stop noticing. One of my students I was having a mentoring session with last month. She had been doing small acts of service for her Dom for months, like charging his phone every night, packing his lunch, keeping his calendar straight. And at some point, he just stopped seeing it. It became the way things were. She came to me and said, I don't feel like a sub anymore. I feel like a roommate who does chores. And that's a painful sentence to hear. But has that ever happened to you on either side of it? Because here's the thing: service that isn't acknowledged doesn't stay service for long. It turns into labor. And labor without recognition turns into resentment. So, Doms, this is your part of the challenge, and it's just as important as the subs. Notice. Actually, catch it when it happens. If you don't notice your sub service, you're not paying enough attention to your own dynamic. Acknowledge and be specific about it. Don't just say, thanks, babe. You know, try something like, I noticed you filled the gas tank. I was dreading that. And now I don't have to think about it. Thank you. See the difference? You're telling them their attention worked. So reinforce. This is where you make it part of your dynamic. That could be praise. It could be a privilege, like choosing what you watch tonight. It could be a small ritual, like you're sub-kneeling for a minute while you tell them what you appreciated that day. You can let them choose what toys you use in your next scene. But the point is acknowledging it. My Dom will do this for me at the end of the day. It just takes a couple minutes and he'll just name one thing that he noticed I did that day that he appreciated. It just really changes everything because I know he appreciates me, but it's nice to hear him say it out loud, and that encourages me to be of service to him more. So again, for this challenge, the sub finds three intentional ways to make their Dom's day easier. The Dom's challenge is to notice and acknowledge and reinforce that service. Now, before I get to challenge four, if these ideas got your wheels turning but you're not sure where to start, I put together a list of protocols you can pick from, including a bunch of them that work in public without anyone noticing. You can grab it at domsubliving.com slash protocols. It's free, and the link is in the description too. And if you want to do any of these challenges alongside other people who are living this lifestyle too, come hang out in our All Access Pass community. You can join at DomSubbliving.com slash all access. A lot of members are sharing how their scenes and protocols are going. And honestly, the stories in there are half the fun. All right, one challenge left, and this is the one that changed my own dynamic more than anything else I've tried in years. Challenge number four, the new kink challenge. Here's how this one works. Each of you chooses one kink, like one activity or type of play you're curious about. You talk through both, then you agree on one new thing to explore together inside your boundaries. But before you do that, I want you to start with what I call the yes no maybe refresh. Both of you fill out a yes no maybe list separately. You can grab my free one at domsubliving.com slash checklist, but you both fill yours out, no peeking, no talking about it while you fill it in. Then you sit down and compare. Here's the challenge twist. Each person has to pick one maybe from the other person's list and have a real conversation about what would move it to a yes or to a firm no. There's zero pressure to actually do it. The goal is the conversation. This one is great for couples who've been together a while and assume they already know everything about each other. Because I'll be honest with you, that was us. The first time we did a refresh, we'd been together for years. I figured I knew that list by heart. Then we compared, and something on my Dom's list had quietly moved from a no to a maybe. He just never brought it up though. Why? Well, because he assumed I'd say no. I was shocked, like not about the kink, but about all the time we lost not exploring and enjoying the thing because we just assumed and never talked about it. So, how many things are sitting in that space for you right now? Things maybe you both want, but nobody's mentioned because you both assumed the answer was the same that it was for years. That conversation opened up a whole new chapter for us. And it's why this is the challenge I'd pick if you could only do one. So maybe it's something like wax play, where you assume it's a hard no for your partner because they kind of cringed at the idea when you brought it up years ago. But when you do this refresh, maybe your partner will mark it as a maybe. So if you do that refresh and something like that happens, make sure you ask the right questions. And these are the questions I want you to use. Number one, what part of it makes you curious? Number two, what part of it worries you? Number three, what would need to be true for it to feel safe? And number four, what's the smallest possible version we could try? Because if you take something like wax play, for example, maybe your partner wasn't worried about the pain or the heat of the wax. They were just worried about the mess on the sheets. That's totally solvable. You just start with a low temperature candle, you know, just drop a single drop on their forearm in the bathtub, and that's it. And then maybe your partner will love it. But notice how small that first step was. That's the secret. A maybe doesn't become a yes through pressure. It becomes a yes when you figure out what was actually in the way. And sometimes the conversation turns a maybe into a firm no. That's a good result too. A clear no is so much better than a fuzzy maybe that just sits there for years, making you both kind of wonder. Once you've done the refresh, though, go back to the main challenge. Each of you picks one thing you're curious about. Talk them both through, then choose one to try this week or this month. A few tips to make it go well. Set a date so it doesn't get pushed aside like everything else. Negotiate it like any new scene with limits, a safe word, and a plan to stop. Plan aftercare ahead of time because new things can bring up unexpected feelings. And debrief afterwards. So talk about what worked, what would you change, what would you do again. Doms, your work here is leading the conversation without steering it. Make it safe for your sub to say what they actually want, even if it surprises you. And subs, your work is honesty. Don't just mark something a no because it's always been a no. Like actually think about it. And don't mark something a yes just to please your partner. And again, if you don't have a yes, no, maybe list yet, I've got one you can use for free at domsubliving.com slash checklist. I'll put it in the description too. But so there you go. Four kinky challenges for DOMs and Sabs. Number one, the no touch challenge with the silent scene if you want to level up there. Number two, the secret protocol challenge. Number three, the service challenge, and number four, the new kink challenge, starting with that yes, no, maybe refresh. Now, remember what I said at the start. Don't try all four. Pick the one that made your stomach flip a little while you were listening. That's your one. And here's what I'd love you to do. Tell me which challenge you picked in the comments, or reach out to me on social media, or DM me in our community at domsubliving.com slash community, because I would love to share on the podcast how these went for you, like the wins, the funny fails, the things that surprise you, shared with your permission and without your last name, of course. So make sure you're subscribed because I'm always sharing what works for myself and other people in real life. But every one of these challenges comes down to the same thing paying attention to each other on purpose and being present in your role. When you strip everything else away, that's what a dynamic really is. Happy Kingtober. And until next time, keep embracing your power and pleasure through Dom Sub Living.
